ORACLE Performance and Tuning

Course Description This course will provide the participant with the knowledge to analyze data base performance requirements, determine bottlenecks, provide a list of increased performance alternatives, and implement the desired solutions. Participants apply the knowledge through laboratory exercises. The duration of the course is three days (24 hours).

Student Learning Objectives/Outcomes

Upon completion of this course the student will:
  • understand performance and tuning concepts and performance trade-offs
  • use ORACLE to monitor performance-related events.
  • recognize the rollback segment and redo log oriented bottlenecks.
  • monitor exclusive locks.
  • recognized data thrashing.
  • tune ORACLE queries.
  • understand transaction processing in ORACLE.
  • use ORACLE indexes to solve application tuning problems.
  • properly set init.ora parameters.
  • understand the rules of normalized design and compromise the rules of normalization to solve specific problems.
Required Textbooks and Materials
Participants will receive course materials and a laboratory book.
