ORACLE Performance and Tuning

Course Description This course will provide the participant with the knowledge to analyze data base performance requirements, determine bottlenecks, provide a list of increased performance alternatives, and implement the desired solutions. Participants apply the knowledge through laboratory exercises. The duration of the course is three days (24 hours).

Student Learning Objectives/Outcomes

Upon completion of this course the student will:

understand performance and tuning concepts and performance trade-offs
use ORACLE to monitor performance-related events.
recognize the rollback segment and redo log oriented bottlenecks.
monitor exclusive locks.
recognized data thrashing.
tune ORACLE queries.
understand transaction processing in ORACLE.
use ORACLE indexes to solve application tuning problems.
properly set init.ora parameters.
understand the rules of normalized design and compromise the rules of normalization to solve specific problems.

Scott Streit is the Chief Technology Officer of Intervise and a professor at Villanova. Mr. Streit performed a variety of functions for ORACLE including methodology development and performance tuning.

This three-day course is designed for ORACLE Server-based software developers and Database Administrators.
